The Daintree Rainforest “north of the river” stretches from the Daintree River ferry to the end of the bitumen at Cape Tribulation which is a distance of about 35km. At the 2016 Census, the population was just over 600 people. The Daintree is in Douglas Shire Council which includes the two “big” towns of Mossman and Port Douglas and has a total population of around 12,000 people.

Daintree National Park is in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area which meets the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. There are many unique plants and animals that call this part of the world home.
