May 2022 - Low Tides on Cow Bay beach, Port Douglas Carnivale

Daintree Dazzle on beaches

On the 17th May, there was a very low tide of 0.36m at 3.45pm so all three Cow Bay beaches were accessible. On other days there were also low tides so Dazzle and I explored the third beach for the first time. The aerial screen shot is from a Jason Montell video. Beach 2 is usually accessible by walking across the land (yellow stripe) but rarely is Beach 3 accessible.

It is about 3km along the beach from Cape Kimberley to the mouth of the Daintree River so we sometimes go for this longer walk.

Carnivale at Port Douglas is always a great event. I went to Tropical Rock under the stars at Rex Smeal Park and the Seafood Extravaganza at the Marina. I had a delicious gourmet prawn concoction and a Daintree spritz - Devils Thumb Distillery gin.

The Teamsters Park in Craiglie is interesting for a pit stop. There are interpretative signs with lots of history and a garden planted with native pendas.

We had a pink dinner at Heritage Lodge in Diwan to raise money for our local clinic and on the way I saw a cassowary with three teenage chicks wandering along the side of the road.

There was a vigil held for the victims of domestic and family violence under the raintrees at Mossman.

Lots of weird clouds and rainbows around this month. The ferry stopped a couple of times due to minor flooding, stuff stuck on the cables from debris coming down the river, maintenance, scraping the bottom at low tides …
