Beaches of the Daintree - Thornton

Thornton Beach from Struck Reef in the North to Hutchinson Creek in the South

Thornton Beach, marked in yellow on the map has two creeks: Cooper Creek in the north and Hutchinson Creek in the south. Thornton Beach is about 3.8km long. Struck Reef is just offshore. Thornton Beach is dominated by Thornton Peak, one of Queensland’s highest peaks at 1374m. It is shown by the red dropped pin on the map.

At 2am on the 1st of July, 2018, after heavy rainfall, there was a loud rumble and two large landslides crashed down Thornton Peak. The eastern face of Thornton Peak now bears two impressive scars.


And, as always when travelling through the Daintree Rainforest, watch out for cassowaries:
